I'm a writer, an artist, a former bookstore owner, a former web developer, and am currently on faculty at the Gotham Writers' Workshop. I am British-Jamaican American (born in London, England), and immigrated to the US when I was about four and grew up in Cambridge, MA. In my late 20s I moved to Brooklyn, NY and for three and a half years, I owned and ran the indie bookstore, Indigo Café & Books.

I have a Master's in Creative Writing from the Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine concentrating in Speculative Fiction and a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Engineering (Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Visual Art) from Boston University.

My short stories have been included in The Best of Halfway Down the Stairs, 2005-2010, and have been a finalist for the 2013 storySouth Million Writers Award. My debut novel Elysium, published by Aqueduct Press, received the 2014 Philip K. Dick Special Citation Award, been finalist for the 2015 Locus Award for Best First Novel, and placed on the Honor List for the Tiptree Award.
